Teens for Jeans Collects 800+ Pairs

Forest Hill High School participated in a national effort sponsored by Aeropostale and the website DoSomething.org. In four years, the Aeropostale national program has collected and donated more than 1.5 million pairs of jeans for homeless teens. DoSomething.org defines homeless teens as anyone under the age of 18 without parental, foster or institutional care. Also, according to the website, one out of three homeless people are younger than 18 and about 1.6 million youths will experience homelessness each year.

Teens for Jeans ran through Feb. 10 with the winning school earning a prize. This was a worthwhile project that the Forest Hill Students eagerly embraced. The response was overwhelming, and the students proudly presented over 800 pairs of jeans to the Aeropostale store at the Northpark Mall on Friday, February 10.

The Underground Railroad Visits Forest Hill

New Stage Theatre

New Stage Theater kicked off Black History Month celebrations at Forest Hill High School with a performance of their award-winning traveling show, "Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad." With an innovative blend of music and quick costume changes, four actors took students on a journey featuring "danger, friendship, spies, fugitives, soldiers and the pursuit of the American dream." This production was sponsored by Entergy and offered students an opportunity to experience a live stage show in the school auditorium. Dr. Debra Mays-Jackson, principal at Forest Hill, remarked that "this was a great way to kick off Black History Month. Our students truly enjoyed the performance and I thank Entergy for giving our students this rare opportunity."
