Patriot Receives Military Academy Appointment
Cadet PFC Savonte Burns, a 2012 graduate of Forest Hill, has received an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and in the coming months he will be stationed on its base in Kings Point, New York. Burns is currently living in Roswell, New Mexico, where he is finishing a year at the New Mexico Military Institute.
Lady Patriots State Champs Again!
The Lady Patriots have won the 6A Championship Game Saturday at the Mississippi Coliseum, beating Southaven in thrilling fashion with 4 overtimes, 76-74. Anissa Jackson's clutch buzzer-beater was one of many highlights of a game that will be remembered for years to come. Alexis Collins received MVP honors with 16 points, while Essence Pulliam, Claresa Banks, Anissa Jackson and Alexia Dean all scored in double digits. New Scholarship Resources
Students looking for scholarships are encouraged to check out several new resources to assist in the hunt. High Five Scholarships offers a list of scholarships and a free scholarship matching service. The College Board has also launched a new service called Big Future with a large scholarship database, a free step-by-step customized college plan, and information on how to find the right school for you. Rise Up Mississippi has also created a guide specifically for Mississippi students with career videos, school profiles and a scholarship database.
Congrats Pamela Byrd
The Forest Hill Family would like to congratulate 2012 Graduate and Track Standout, Pamela Byrd, who competed in the National Jr. College Track and Field Meet this weekend. She became the fastest Jr. College freshmen in the Nation finishing behind two Sophomores, both of whom have already committed to the University of Alabama. She ran personal bests in the 100 meters and the 200 meters. See the full results here.
